Mokogodo is our early Valentine — this enchanting little girl has been stealing hearts since she stepped foot in the Nursery.
Mokogodo’s story with us began on 13th February 2023, in the heart of Laikipia. The Mukogodo Forest is a land of rolling woodlands, frequented by elephants as they traverse from the bottom reaches of Samburu to the foothills of Mount Kenya. On the fringes of the forest, Samburu found a tiny calf, all on her own. There were no other elephants in the area, and based on her condition, it was clear that she was an orphan.

I am deeply grateful for the existence of the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust (SWT) in this vast, often harsh world. Amidst the prevailing misery, hatred, and war, SWT provides much-needed hope and joy, significantly impacting my life. While SWT may only reach me through a small screen, they impart the profound knowledge and awareness that great kindness, humanity, sacrifice, love, and hope thrive in a distant place called Africa. For this invaluable gift, I am most thankful.

I am truly delighted with this Valentine’s Day gift and cherish knowing that our very first adopted elephant, Kerrio, has grown from the beloved baby we all adored into a mature being capable of caring for others. I am incredibly proud of her!

Mokogodo, though a tiny orphan, is brimming with life. It is heartwarming to know she is in the safe hands of the keepers at the Sheldrick Nairobi Nursery. I was particularly charmed by her assertive behavior in chasing away the warthogs. I wish her the best on her journey back to the wild.

The beauty of these gentle, family-oriented giants is beyond comprehension, making it unfathomable how anyone could harm them. When we harm animals for profit, we lose a part of our humanity. Such actions are evil, and divine judgment is inevitable. Conversely, those who aid these precious beings are recognized by God as angels on earth. I extend my heartfelt thanks to everyone involved in ensuring Mokogodo’s safety. Please continue your excellent work.

I have adopted this baby elephant for a friend and her young class, named the Elephant Calf’s, believing it a wonderful way for future generations to learn about these magnificent creatures. I eagerly anticipate hearing about their journey from my friend. Welcome to Mrs. Bolton’s class, Mokogodo. May you continue to grow and thrive.
